Demand Surpassing NHS Staff Employment
A BBC article has stated that “NHS staff in England are working on the “edge of safety” as demand is outstripping the increasing numbers being employed“.
Although more staff are being employed the rise in demand means that some areas have increased pressure from staff shortages. They noted that there was a rise in demand for diagnostic tests, visits to A&E, ambulance calls and GP referrals.
The report they refer to from NHS Providers, “A Better Future for the NHS Workforce“, made recommendations around improving organisations to foster a more positive climate as well as supporting the development and improvement of the workforce.
This report emphasises the risk to patient safety and quality care that these staff shortages have.
